ROH TV Review - August 9th, 2014

1) Adam Cole vs. Rocky Romero
This is Adam Cole's first match since losing the ROH World Title to Michael Elgin at Best in the World back in June. Cole may have lost the title, but he certainly hasn't lost his outstanding wrestling ability. This was a solid match that was dominated mainly by Romero. Cole had his moments, but didn't really take control until near the end when he picked up the victory. Good opening match.

Match rating - 6/10

2) Tommaso Ciampa vs. Adam Page (w/ Roderick Strong)
It's been so long since we've seen Adam Page compete on ROH TV. The last time he did compete, he tore the house down with Cedric Alexander so I was pretty excited for this match. It

only went about 10 minutes, but it was an action packed 10 minutes. Page pulled out an amazing shooting star press off the apron onto Ciampa in the early moments of the bout which was just crazy. The match was pretty back and forth throughout, but in the end Ciampa picks up the win after hitting Page with a backbreaker. Fun match.

Match rating - 6/10
After the match, Ciampa cut a really good promo on how he's been overlooked. This brings out Silas Young. Young and Ciampa are the two resident badasses in ROH, but also two of the most underrated, so I was hyped for this showdown. The two go face to face and Ciampa headbutts Young. Silas rolls out of the ring and escapes from an assault from Ciampa.

3) Michael Elgin (w/ Tyson Dux) vs. Kyle O'Reilly (w/ Bobby Fish) - ROH World Championship Match
Last year, I saw Elgin & O'Reilly tear it up in the finals of PWG's Battle of Los Angeles tournament. It was a really good match, but considering they had already wrestled two matches on that evening, I figured they were capable of an even better bout. With that being said, I was interested to see if they could top their previous encounters. This was the match you would expect from O'Reilly and Elgin which is always good. Some nice technical wrestling to start off which led to Kyle targeting the arm of Elgin so he could eventually set him up for his signature cross arm breaker. A variety of styles were showcased here as expected since Kyle is a well rounded competitor. You had some technical exchanges, submissions, and a lot of strikes as well. In the end, O'Reilly locked Elgin in a cross arm breaker on the top rope, but Elgin powered out and nailed Kyle with multiple powerbombs for the victory. That was a really cool ending sequence. This didn't top their previous encounters, but it was definitely just as good as them. Great main event!

Match rating - 8.5/10
All hell breaks loose after the match as Silas Young runs down to attack Michael Elgin. Ciampa runs down for the save. Adam Cole then runs in to beat down Elgin, but out comes Cedric Alexander! The Briscoes and The War Machines hit the ring as well and we have a huge brawl on our hands. Just goes to show how many great storylines are going on in ROH right now. Some crazy spots here in this brawl including Jay Briscoe cutting a backflip off the top turnbuckle onto everyone and Cedric Alexander hitting a huge front flip dive out of the ring onto everyone. The final spot was the best of all though as Michael Elgin powerbombed Adam Cole onto the group of stars brawling outside of the ring. Awesome way to end the show.

Overall thoughts: Really good show tonight as usual. The first two matches were pretty fun and good for what they were. Nice seeing Cole and Page back in action on ROH TV. Ciampa and Silas' interaction was epic, I hope we get a feud between them soon. The main event delivered in every way as expected and the closing brawl was awesome. I recommend checking this week's show out if you missed it. It should be on ROH's website in a few days so keep an eye out for it!
