Lucha Underground Review - February 11th, 2015

Lucha Underground Review - February 11th, 2015

A few weeks ago I found out that Dish Network had acquired the El Rey Network and that I would be able to watch Lucha Underground. I was ecstatic because of the wide variety of talent they have. Whether it be the Mexican talent like Fenix & Pentagon Jr or the Southern California talent like Brian Cage, B-Boy, & Famous B or well known names like Johnny Mundo/Morrison, Prince Puma (Ricochet) & Chavo Guerero, it's a loaded roster with quite a variety.

This week, I finally got around to checking out the show and I managed to catch last week's episode as well so I'd like to give some thoughts on that to start things off. The first match I saw was between Angelico and Son Of Havoc. I had no clue who either guy was, but they put on one hell of a match that really impressed me. Definitely the match of the night. Not by much though because Johnny Mundo and Cage put on a very good main event, interference aside.

That leads us to this week's show which begins with Alberto El Patron asking for some mic time. After his great debut promo in ROH earlier this year, that's something I'm looking forward to!

1) Argenis vs. Fenix

What an opening contest! Apparently Argenis is the younger brother of mexican legend Mistico and he's certainly just as talented. This was my first time seeing him along with the man I've heard alot about, Fenix. Needless to say, they definitely impressed me here. Extremely fun opener. Great, fast paced lucha action!

Match rating - **3/4

2) Johnny Mundo vs. Son of Havoc
Another showstealing performance from Son of Havoc here, this time against Johnny Mundo, formerly known as John Morrison. Last week, the focal point of Mundo's match with Cage was his knee and they continued that story during this match. They did a nice job of selling it still be injured here as well as throwing in some high impact action. That paired with some close falls made for a very good match up.

Match rating - ***1/4

3) Pentagon Jr vs. Ricky Mendel
This was pretty much just a showcase for Pentagon Jr as he dominated the majority of the bout and kept Mandel from hitting much offense. The story going into this match goes back to Pentagon's match with Famous B last week where he injured his arm using his signature submission after he won the match. The same thing took place here as he made Mandel tap out only to torque back on his arm further after the bell. Nice showing for Pentagon as he proves himself once again as a force to be reckoned with.

Match rating - **

Alberto El Patron addresses the crowd
They saved Alberto's debut promo for last and I can't say I blame them. He indirectly says that WWE disrespected him and stabbed him in the back which is why he left. The crowd is extremely hot for him here just like they were at ROH. Really cool moment here. It was interrupted before it could really get going though as the man Alberto defeated for the AAA Title, Tejano, attacked him from behind to close the show. Controversial ending that will make viewers tune in next week to see what happens next. Are we going to see a feud over the AAA Championship in Lucha Underground?
