ROH TV Review - June 3rd, 2015

When ROH announced it was getting it's first national TV Deal, the internet was buzzing. Thankfully, we only had to wait a week for their debut on Destination America. I've been lucky enough to have ROH TV on a local network in my area for nearly a year now so this isn't anything new for me although it's certainly still exciting to see them get a permanent weekly time slot on a solid network.

1) KUSHIDA vs. Will Ferrara
It's awesome seeing one half of the Time Splitters to kick off this show! These two are around the same size however KUSHIDA has a vast experience advantage. After an early flurry, Ferrara manages to stop KUSHIDA's momentum by putting his knees up to block a standing moonsault attempt. This allows him to get control of the match up. He works over KUSHIDA for a few moments before the man who is currently leading in the BOSJ tournament began mounting a comeback. KUSHIDA ends up delivering a sick counter to one of Ferrara's moves and locking him in his submission finisher which is an inverted version of the Kimura Lock. This earns KUSHIDA the victory. Fine little opening contest.

Match rating - **1/2

2) Silas Young vs. Watanabe

This was a shocker as it was actually a solid match. I love Silas, but neither he nor Watanabe have much momentum at the momentum so there was no real reason to get excited about this. Despite that, they managed to get me somewhat interested as Watanabe hit a german suplex on the outside that turned Young inside out. That would end up being the only notable moment in the match though as Silas hit a spinning slam on Watanabe soon after for the win.

3) Moose vs. Colby Corino
Pretty entertaining segment here with BJ Whitmer making Steve Corino's son face Moose and allowing him to "cease the opportunity". Instead, he got thrown into the railing, powerbombed on the floor, AND on the ring apron. Great dominant showing for Moose that builds him up nicely for new viewers headed towards his huge #1 Contender's Match with Roderick Strong & Michael Elgin at Best in the World.

4) The Briscoes vs. Donovan Dijak & J Diesel
This was good for what it was. Jay Lethal on commentary was the best part about it for me even though the action in the ring was solid. The Briscoes got some nice flurries although the House of Truth would end up with the first real upperhand thanks in part to some distractions from Jay Lethal. Mark gets the hot tag and he & Jay begin cleaning house in route to putting away Dijak & Diesel. After the match, Dijak hits Mark with his AWESOME finisher that has to be seen to be believed. Jay goes after Dijak with a dive then pulls him back in the ring. Jay Lethal comes in for the save and Briscoe nails him with the JAYYYYY DRILLLERRRRRR! Super fun way to close the show.

Overall thoughts: This was a nice debut for ROH on Destination America although it didn't showcase their 100% best by any means. There was alot of stuff here that I think will keep new viewers coming back though. They did a good job of showcasing alot of storylines this week. I'm not sure if that was planned, but I'm sure they thought it'd be a draw for casual fans. However, I would have rather seen them air a show like next week's where insane in-ring action is the focus because it's something that you don't get from TNA or WWE and would set ROH apart in a new viewer's eyes immediately. None the less, this was good for what it was.
