Lucha Underground Season 2 Episode 2 Review - February 3rd, 2016

The show begins with a shot of Prince Puma working out backstage. Pentagon Jr approaches and says after last week, they need to team up tonight to take out the Disciples of Death, but after that's done, Puma is next on Pentagon's last because CERO MIEDO! They do a movie-esque fight scene that ends with Puma pushing Pentagon up against the wall then walking off.

1) Johnny Mundo vs. Killshot
Killshot flurries early with a sasuke special to the outside on Mundo. Mundo is able to regain control soon after however his cockiness allows Killshot to nail him with an ace crusher for a nearfall. The crowd gets fired up as Killshot hits a sick combination of moves on Mundo in the corner which culminates in a DDT off the second turnbuckle for a two count. Mundo's experience advantage allows him to once again take back control and hit the starship pain split leg moonsault for the victory.

Match rating - **1/2

Mundo gets on the mic and calls out Mil Muertes who is still sitting on his throne like last week. This is becoming a trend this season and I like it. Muertes is THE man and everyone is gunning for him. Mundo can't finish his statement before Cage comes through the crowd to interrupt. This is Cage's best promo I've heard as he calls out Muertes and brings up the fact that he beat the ass of Johnny Mundo the last time they met. Cage & Mundo tease a confrontation before Mundo backs away and leaves.

Marty the Moth has Sexy Star tied up somewhere. She looks like she's been beaten. Marty is a sick son of a bitch, I tell ya. He teases her with a moth and says that his sister (whoever that is) said it's almost time for Sexy Star to spread her wings and fly back to the Temple. Marty says she won't go alone however because he's coming with her.

2) PJ Black vs. The Mack

They aired a pretty cool vignette hyping the debut of PJ Black right before this match. What a first opponent he has in the form of Mack. It's Willie's first appearance in Season 2, the last time we saw him Cage was stomping his head into cinder blocks, but Mack hasn't lost a step as we would see here. PJ got most of his signature stuff in including the Black to the Future spinning powerbomb and a top rope springboard moonsault. In the end, The Mack would prove too dominant and catch PJ with a mid-air stunner off a springboard which allowed him to get the three count.

Match rating - **1/4

3) Pentagon Jr & Prince Puma vs. The Disciples of Death (w/ Catrina)
This was the logically perfect way to go following last week and even branching back to last season. Puma does a lot of the work here. Pentagon does break up a few pins, though, and he jumps in near the end to hit some stuff on the trios champons. Puma gets going and nails the 630, by the time he pops back up, Pentagon has already covered the disciple of death and pins him. Puma & Pentagon win, but Pentagon basically stole the pin so now it's confrontation time.

Match rating - **1/2

Puma & Pentagon are face to face. Pentagon nails him with the backbreaker and puts him in position for the arm breaker. Puma escapes and starts throwing kicks, but Pentagon bails.

The show ends with Rey Mysterio speaking to a man in a hoodie before his face appears on the screen. REY REY IS IN LUCHA UNDERGROUND! Awesome way to make people want to tune in next week.

Another decent show this week. No match was longer than 7-8 minutes and much like last week, it was mostly storyline oriented with things getting set up for the new season. It was an easy watch, but still not on that Season 1 level. Hope things pick up soon!
