New Year's Smash
January 13th, 2021
1) Eddie Kingston (The Butcher & The Blade) vs. PAC (w/ Penta El Cero M & Rey Fenix)
It's pretty wild that this kicks off the show. This is a 8-10 minute match, but it bangs. PAC & King go full speed the whole time. Dives, chops, kicks, and head drops. The good shit! PAC wins with a black arrow after a great sprint.
Match rating - ***1/4
Post-match, PAC locks Eddie in a submission after the bell which lures Penta & Fenix in, then comes Butcher & Blade. I'm praying to god we don't get a WWE style impromptu trios match and we don't :) instead Lance Archer comes out and runs Eddie & Butcher & Blade off then gets in PAC's face telling him "you better get on the same page" or something. Are they gonna feud orrrrr?
2) Miro (w/ Kip Sabian & Penelope Ford) vs. Chuck Taylor (w/ Orange Cassidy)
Stip here is if Chuck loses, he has to be Miro's "butler" or young boy. Chuck gets a huge flurry early with a bunch of sick offense. Then Miro destroys him and forces him to tap. Chuck :(((( cameras pan to Orange who realizes that Chuck belongs to Miro for the next month... this sucks and is so sad. Orange is gonna be all alone for a month. I'm sure this is gonna lead to an awesome pay-off.

More Matt Hardy & Private Party shit that I am bored of. Yawn.
Chris Jericho (oof) and the Inner Circle are out to give us their New Year's Resolutions. Hager blurts out "CHAMPIONSHIPS" and everyone has a little line. Then we get to the jist. Jericho says he & MJF will win the tag team titles. Santana & Ortiz take issue with this as they feel they were picked to be the tag team of the group. Sammy Guevara speaks up also because he used to team with Jericho. They all agree to do a match next week - Jericho/MJF vs. Sammy/Hager vs. Santana & Ortiz - winner gets the bragging rights of being THE tag team in the group. MJF was hilarious in this, per usual.
They tease Hangman Page joining Dark Order as he's backstage hanging with them and they give him shit asking when he's joining the group.
KENNY OMEGA AND THE YOUNG BUCKS ARE HERE. Oh and Don Callis. It's The Elite in action next.
3) Kenny Omega, Karl Anderson, & Luke Gallows vs. Brian Pillman Jr, Griff Garrison, & Danny Limelight
Well. Don Callis throws us a curveball and introduces Gallows & Anderson as Omega's partners instead of the Bucks. This... makes.. no sense? I mean I'm sure there's a story to it, but I don't know what the fuck it is. Anyways. This match is decent. They give Pillman, Garrison, & Limelight way more than you ever thought they would which is fun. Omega and the Good Brothers get the win when all is said and done.
Match rating - **3/4
The post match is awesome even if it doesn't shed any light on what's going on. MOXLEY comes out to get revenge. The Lucha Bros come out to even the odds. It's a huge 3 on 3 brawl. Bunch of people come out to separate and it's super hype. The Bucks come out and it gets confusing as shit again. They try to calm Mox down, LUCHA BROS SUPERKICK THE BUCKS OMG. More brawling here as Omega, Anderson, & Gallows escape.
ITS THE WAITING ROOM WITH BRITT BAKER & REBEL. This week's guest is Cody Rhodes. Britt makes fun of Cody's tattoo and makes a bunch of underhanded jokes. She then brings out Jade Cargill as a guest and she SLAPS CODY. LORD. Cody didn't even get a word in here, he just got ran down verbally and now physically. Red Velvet pops up to confront Jade. She & Jade trade stiff slaps and a fight breaks out. Cody yells for the other girls to come break it up. Second pull apart brawl in a row on this show, but I don't care it was fun.
Things shift to a clip of Britt attacking Thunder Rosa in the parking lot which turns to a pre-taped video of Rosa saying Tony Khan confirmed a match with her & Britt at Beach Break on February 3rd so she can finally get her hands on Britt.
4) FTR vs. Marko Stunt & Jungle Boy (w/ Luchasaurus)
This was better than I expected. Didn’t really anticipate much due to my disinterest in FTR. Some fun stuff from Marko and overall, a lot more fun than you'd normally get from a FTR match so it was a nice change of pace. I hate using the same word twice but it’s the best word to describe this. FTR wins and onward we go!
Match rating - **3/4
5) Serena Deeb (c) vs. Tay Conti - AEW Women's Championship Match
I had high hopes for this one, but I think I set the bar too high. They put this in the same old women's slot they always stick these matches in, and for me, it takes something away from it because it feels like nothing more than this week's featured women's match. It's not the ladies' fault, though. They worked hard and it was a solid match. It just lacked the fire or importance to be anything more.
Match rating - **1/2
NEXT WEEK: Santana & Ortiz vs. Chris Jericho & MJF vs. Jake Hager & Sammy Guevara PLUS Matt Sydal & Top Flight vs. Matt Hardy & Private Party, Dark Order & Hangman Page vs. Chaos Project & TH2, and a bunch more stuff, check AEW's twitter bro.
6) Darby Allin (c) vs. Brian Cage - TNT Title Match
Another awesome main event from AEW here and it's totally different from last week. This match is a months and months in the making and it tells the story excellently. Cage throws Darby around like an absolute ragdoll including a toss over the ring post to the floor through a table which was bonkers. Darby is bleeding from the head and taking powerbomb after powerbomb including one onto the stage. Just amazing sympathy underdog shit. Darby fights back and hits a coffin drop on the steps and sets up for another a few moments later in the ring, but Ricky Starks and Hook show up on the apron. STING shows up and gives Starks the bat to the stomach. Cage meets Darby at the top turnbuckle, though. DARBY NAILS THE CRUCIFIX BOMB FOR THE PIN TO RETAIN THE TITLE.
