AEW Dynamite
January 20th, 2021
Jacksonville, FL
The show kicks off with a birthday celebration for -1 also known as Brodie Lee Jr, the son of the late Brodie Lee. The Dark Order has him a cake and leads the crowd in singing "Happy Birthday" to him. In the midst of this feel good moment, out comes Dr. Luther and Serpentico. Luther says this place is turning into a daycare and asks Brodie Jr if he really thinks he looks stupid. The crowd cheers. Luther says Dark Order are the stupid looking ones and that the Chaos Project doesn't like them or children. Luther says they are gonna ruin his birthday which breaks into a brawl. Jack Evans & Angelico join in to help the Chaos Project which brings out HANGMAN PAGE WITH A HUGE DIVE OFF THE STAGE ONTO EVERYONE.
1) Hangman Page, John Silver, Alex Reynolds & Colt Cabana vs. Jack Evans, Angelico, Luther, & Serpentico
HELLUVA way to start this match off. Silver is in first and Serpentico and the rest of the rudos isolate him and work him over. Silver gets the tag to Hangman after a few minutes. Shit really breaks down from here and we get some insane spots on the floor. It doesn't get any less crazy down the stretch with Hangman powerbombing Jack Evans over the railing onto Angelico. Meanwhile on the entrance ramp, Brodie Lee Jr hits Luther with a stick and Luther goes face first into the cake. Page, Silver, & Reynolds pop off their lariat into suplex/pin combo to finish things off. WOW. Fantastic sprint.
Match rating - ***1/4
Post-match, Brodie Lee Jr reveals his birthday "was three days ago, you idiots" - some classic BTE Dark Order humor.
Meanwhile, in the ring, John Silver prepares for Hangman to accept his invitation to join Dark Order. Instead Page reluctantly says "I can't" and explains "he's done the group thing before and it didn't end well for me... it's been fun, but I'm sorry" OH MAN. The sympathy Page draws is immense. He walks off with his head down and grabs the bottle of alcohol on the birthday table. WOW. I'm so ready for all this struggle to pay off and Page get the World Title.
Backstage, Chris Jericho & MJF say they will be the next AEW World Tag Team Champions. Jericho has been annoying me lately so I didn't pay much attention to this.
In the ring, Tony Schiavone introduces STING. Sting is followed by the TNT Champion Darby Allin. Sting says he sees something in him that reminds him of himself and he likes it. Sting says he wants to be the first person to publicly congratulate Darby on his victory last week and wants everyone to know he only interfered to make sure Darby had a fair title defense. Taz pops up on the screen with Cage, Ricky Starks, Hook, & Will Hobbs. Taz says "fair fight my ass" and says they are dirty fighters and if they want to take it to the streets, they can.. but "the ball is in your court, bitches." Sting whispers something in Darby's ear and Darby says to Team Taz - "be careful what you wish for" AWWWW HELLL. Darby & Sting leave together to Darby's music playing. Insane visual. Also Sting walking to the back to a Wicca Phase song???? What is reality?
At Beach Break in 2 weeks - Britt Baker vs. Thunder Rosa
Meanwhile, The Young Bucks show up to Kenny Omega's house for a meeting to discuss what happened last week. Michael Nakazawa leads him into the house where they see a painting of Kenny & Don on the wall with buff bodies, lmao. The Bucks make fun of it and Don Callis walks up and says Kenny can't attend and sends Nak and the camera guy to "the dungeon" so they can have some privacy. The camera is sat on the ground, but keeps rolling. Don basically tries to pay The Bucks to stay out of he & Kenny's lives. The Bucks call him out on it and seemingly attack him as the camera cuts out and Don screams.
2) Cody Rhodes (w/ Arn Anderson) vs. "Pretty" Peter Avalon
SoCal Sensation Peter Avalon with a huge match on his hands here. Jade Cargill comes out to distract Cody which allows Avalon to take advantage for a minute. This goes a lot longer than you'd expect and probably than it should've. Cody makes a comeback and locks Avalon in the figure four. He slaps Cody in the face, but when Cody tries to slap him, he taps immediately. Ok, that was pretty funny.

Jungle Express confronts FTR. This leads to Dax Harwood vs. Jungle Boy being set up for next week.
3) Jon Moxley vs. Nick Comoroto
This is Mox's first match since he lost the AEW World Title on December 2nd, 2020. The story is that Nick is the only person who would agree to face Moxley tonight. Mox headbutts him to start and this turns into quite the little contest especially for someone who's completely new to Dynamite, this is his debut, by the way. He's had some Dark appearances, though. He gets some stuff in and looks to give Mox a little struggle before he's choked out by the former champion.
Match rating - **
After the match, Jon Moxley gets the mic and cuts an awesome promo saying he can't keep up with who's Bullet Club and who's Elite and who's from Impact - it doesn't matter because to him, it's just more bodies and more violence. He vows to get revenge on Kenny. All roads in wrestling lead to Moxley. Good shit from Mox as always. I loved this promo.
Backstage, Eddie Kingston is with Butcher, Blade, & Bunny. He faces Lance Archer next week and you can tell he's frustrated with losing so much recently, including to PAC last week. Archer shows up to pick the wound and King gets into a yelling match with Archer and Jake Roberts.
Kenny Omega is shown walking into the arena in a hot ass purple jacket. He finds Don Callis who has a bruised eye/side of his face. Omega asks who did this and Callis doesn't wanna say it, but it slips out. Kenny can't believe The Bucks did this. Callis runs Alex Marvez and the cameraman out of the locker room before we can get anymore info.
4) Matt Sydal & Top Flight vs. Matt Hardy & Private Party
This show is starting to kind of drag, so I was a little zoned out to start this, but they got me into it by the hot finishing run. Some good nearfalls and the biggest thing to come out of this was Private Party fully turning heel by using a chair to gain the victory while Matt had the ref distracted. Huge SSP from Quen to get the win for the team.
Match rating - ***
Backstage, MJF and Sammy Guevara argue and MJF tries to smooth shit over by saying "let's just get tonight's match over with and move forward" followed by fist bumps to all members of the Inner Circle. Guevara rejects his fist bump and says they aren't on that level yet.
5) Leyla Hirsch vs. Penelope Ford (w/ Kip Sabian, Miro, & Chuck Taylor)
Miro has Chuck dressed in a suit as he is his "butler" for the next month per the stip of their match last week. They've also changed his name to CHARLES TAYLOR LMAO. BUT YO. I enjoyed the hell out of this match. Sure, the placing on the card sucked ass because it continues the trend of putting the women in the same old spot with little effort to spice it up. Despite that, this was one of my favorite matches and segments of the night. Hirsch looked awesome here with a lot of flashy offense, even diving onto Kip Sabian and ring announcer Justin Roberts at ringside at one point which was hilarious. Ford gets the victory, though off distraction from Sabian. I'd like a rematch of this one.
Match rating - **3/4
Post-match, Miro forces Chuck Taylor to tell Orange Cassidy that Miro is his best friend now. Orange is in the crowd and stands up. Chuck refuses at first, then reluctantly does as he's told. Chuck is soooooo good at garnering sympathy and the blow off for this angle is going to rule and make Chuck even more of a draw and asset to the company. I loved this, just as I expected.
Backstage, Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows attack Penta El Cero M. Kenny Omega walks up and shoves the point of his shoe into the eye of Penta. Anderson says "that's what the biz cliz does" --- man, so many Bullet Club name drops tonight. Interesting after Tama Tonga's live stream last night. This shit is gonna explode into something, I can feel it.
NEXT WEEK: Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, & The Young Bucks vs. The Dark Order
Coming soon: An AEW Women's Title #1 Contender Eliminator Tournament. WHOOO. Let's hope they put some effort into this.
6) Chris Jericho & MJF vs. Sammy Guevara & Jake Hager vs. Santana & Ortiz
Mannn, Sammy Guevera stole the whole fucking show in this match. If there was ever any question if he could be a singles star, this 100% answered. He flew around here and laid everyone out on multiple occassions. All with crispness and a swagger that he's perfected. The finish with MJF rolling him up using the tights for the three count off a Wardlow distraction showed me that it was definitely the purpose of this to build Sammy into this spot. It looks like the MJF/Sammy story is really gonna get some fuel now and I cannot wait. Guevara is about to have a breakout year in 2021. Great main event.
Match rating - ***1/2
Also, the main event of Beach Break, a Dynamite special two weeks away, was announced during this match - Kenny Omega, Karl Anderson, & Luke Gallows vs. Jon Moxley, PAC, & Rey Fenix! OH HELL YES.
